This dental equipment payment calculator works out the monthly payment, total interest and total cost, including the down payment, of financing a chair, scanner or imaging unit from its price, down payment, rate and term. Orchardmark Financial, a small-business funding broker in Scranton, Pennsylvania, provides it for Lackawanna County practices as illustrative arithmetic only, not an offer.
What to enter
- Equipment price: the quoted price of the chair, scanner, imaging unit or other device.
- Down payment: what the practice pays up front, if anything.
- Interest rate: the annual rate from an offer, or a what-if figure of your own.
- Term: how many monthly payments the financing runs.
The calculator finances the price minus the down payment, assumes equal monthly payments, and returns three figures: the monthly payment, the total interest over the term, and the total cost, which is every payment plus the down payment.
Checking the arithmetic
A hypothetical, only to test the method: a device priced at $12,000, no down payment, a 0 percent rate and 24 months. Each payment is $500, total interest is zero and the total cost is $12,000. Add a down payment and the payment falls while the total cost stays the same at 0 percent; raise the rate above zero and the payment, the interest and the total cost all rise. These are arithmetic checks, not an offer.
What stays a by-hand step
- Leases. The calculator treats the amount as financed and owned. A lease with an end-of-term buyout needs the buyout added to the total cost yourself.
- Fees. Documentation or origination fees are not included; add them to the total cost.
- Bundled service or software. If the quote bundles a service contract or software licenses into the payment, ask for the equipment price on its own line before entering it.
- Tax. Any sales tax on the equipment is not included unless you add it to the price.
If an offer's payment does not match the calculator's, one of those items is usually the reason.
Reading the result for a practice
Set the monthly payment against a slow month of collections, not an average one. Claims timing means deposits can lag production, and the payment does not wait. A longer term lowers the payment and raises the total interest; a larger down payment lowers both but uses cash the practice may need for payroll.
